i own the domain, but the matching username is unavailable..?
-
i own the domain http://thetinytraveler.com through wordpress. someone else has the free blog http://thetinytraveler.wordpress.com as well as the username ‘thetinytraveler’. their free blog is inactive. if i own http://thetinytraveler.com and paid money for it, shouldn’t i be able to have the same username ‘thetinytraveler’? right now i am using the username ‘ttinytraveler’ because ‘thetinytraveler’ is ‘unavailable’. i have updated my display name to ‘thetinytraveler’ but i would really like to have the username ‘thetinytraveler’, same as my domain. does anyone know if this can be worked out? or is updating the display name my only option?

There is no expiration date for a dormant or inactive blog. You can try leaving a comment on the blog asking if the owner is willing to transfer it to you. But until you get a positive answer from her, you can use your purchased domain name (kept up to date with yearly payments) and your “work around” name with your display name.
WordPress won’t force the owner to give up rights to her blog name, active, dormant, or private. Even for deleted blogs, there is no recycling of names:
