I paid for a new domain but now my whole site is down!

  My site was called theworldstalking.wordpress.com and I added the domain theworldstalking.com and paid by credit card, but now my site is gone.

  Can you please advise what is the best thing to do?

  It may take a short time, for a new domain to be activated. If you set it as primary too fast, your site may become unreachable for about a minute.
