I Pay To Have You Host, Now Remove The Ad

  • Unknown's avatar

i recently paid to have wordpress host my domain name, and on the first story in my blog things are fine. but if you scroll down past that one story, i get this ad that pops up with my blog/domain address on left side, but right side says ‘Blog at WordPress.com The Hero Theme’, and it stays up as long as you go below the 1st story. I dont appreciate paying to have you host my domain and being told ads will be removed after that, only to find they remain contrary to what i was told. remove it now please.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s not an advert. It is the theme credit, and it appears that way when you have infinite scrolling enabled. You can turn it off:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/infinite-scroll/

What you cannot do (unless you want your blog suspended) is to remove the theme credits which appear in your footer. You agreed to the Terms of Service when you signed up for your site, and one of the terms was to display those credits.

    11. Attribution. Automattic reserves the right to display attribution links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com,’ theme author, and font attribution in your blog footer or toolbar. Footer credits and the WordPress.com toolbar may not be altered or removed regardless of upgrades purchased.

You can, however, change the way the footer credits look: color, font, size to match the colors on your site as long as they are still easily legible.

I turned off infinite scroll and that leaves the footer down where nobody much reads it

a ‘theme credit’ and putting ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ on a glaringly obvious white bar is advertising no matter what you call it. i dont care abt the theme credits at the very bottom of the page after all stories. i just wasnt a fan of having this white bar pop up right after the first story on my pages when i just recently moved this domain name here; what that is is basically advertising wordpress.com and the theme throughout the entire blog instead of leaving it at the very bottom, where it belongs if i’m forced to leave it on the page. im not paying wordpress.com to have them advertise on a huge white bar on my page everywhere someone goes, they already made my money they can back off.

Call it what you want – but even the VIP blogs that START at $ 30,000 / year are required to have footer credits

different themes have different looks for the footer when infinite scroll is enabled – it you don’t like the looks of it you have a few choices, move off WordPress.COM, turn off IS or find a theme that has a different looking footer

…I dont appreciate paying to have you host my domain and being told ads will be removed after that…

A couple of things to consider:

Most of the people who answer questions in these forums are volunteers, including me. We ask for staff assistance when there is something we cannot help with, and they do monitor these forums. We all appreciate courtesy.

You have not paid WordPress.com to host your site. Your site is hosted by wp.com for free. You paid for domain mapping, but you are still hosted on wp.com. See here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

If you also have the no-ads upgrade, I’m wondering if you bought a bundle which included custom design. If so, then you can change that bright red to something a bit more subtle. As I explained above, it must remain readable, but it can be less “in your face.”

@Tess – looks like they turned off IS so the ugly bar is gone and the footer is tucked back on the bottom right side of the site – looks more better to me

    1) You don’t pay WP.com for hosting. You bought a domain name; if you were hosted elsewhere you’d pay for the domain name AND hosting.

    2) If you don’t want those footer credits, buy hosting.

    @auxclass
Yes, I saw that. But with CSS it would be possible to change the intense red on black (with white full-stops) to light grey or something more sophisticated. That’s just my taste, and perhaps the OP doesn’t find red on black too attention grabbing.
