Hi! When you cancel a new domain it will go into holding for a bit. Please let us know which of these options works best for you:
Wait: You can wait about five days for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you can purchase it again here or with another provider.
Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice for the domain. Once it’s restored, it will redirect to your free site, or you can point it to another host and transfer after 60 days.
Purchase an Annual Plan: To host your site here after all, buy an annual plan, skip the domain option, then update us here.
It sounds like you want the second or third option. Let us know which works best for you!

Great, thanks for the information – just wondered also, when I purchased the domain I couldn’t work out whether it ended in .com (as I thought when purchasing) or .wordpress.com?

Hi there,
When you purchase a custom domain you get to choose its extension. Registering a free site gives you the .wordpress.com address.
Hope this clears the confusion.

Hi! If you start with a free site, you could always upgrade your free site to a Pro plan. When you upgrade to a Pro plan, your blog content is preserved. Upgrading from the free plan to a Pro plan simply gives you access to additional features.
