I purchased a domain from WP how do I make it into a blog?

I just purchased a domain from wordpress. I am trying to figure out how to create a free blog with this domain. When I try to create a blog using the “Already have a domain” option, it tells me that the domain is taken and registered with wordpress already. My account only gives me the option to “create site” and then asks me to purchase a paid membership. I do not want a website I want to use the domain I bought for a FREE blog on wordpress.com. How do I do this? Please help, Thanks.

To use that domain with a WordPress.com site you’ll need a paid plan as well. You can start a new site with a plan by clicking the Create Site button on this page:

So is there no way for me to create a free blog with the domain I bought from WordPress? That was the entire point of me signing up. I want to create a blog not a website and I don’t see that option. Thank you for responding.

You can create a free WordPress.com site via https://wordpress.com/start/site/
But to use a custom domain with a WordPress.com site, you need a paid plan, whether you bought the domain from us or whether you bought it somewhere else.

A blog is just a website that is set up in a specific way, showing latest posts on the front page instead of static content. When going through the steps to set up a site you can select which way you want your site set up initially, but you can also switch between the two types of site any time you want.
