i really don’t get it

I got it set up to run on localhost, so, i could figure out what i was doing, and, there is another snag. I don’t get how i’m ever supposed to be able to ever actually change anything easily. That is supposed to be the draw; that this is somehow an easier way, but, nothing is coming easy or intuitive or fast or anything. It seems like: my option is to get a ‘theme’ and, just enter data into that theme and take it. If i want to actually change anything: its a whole new level of convoluted aggravation.
I thought: i would get a theme approximate to what i want, and, just make minor changes, but, that is ‘modifying the theme’ which seems to be a process far far more time consuming and difficult than: just building a new site from absolute scratch.
I’m probably missing something really obvious, because: that has been the narrative ever since i started trying to get wordpress to do anything; i missed something, and, its so obvious, i was a dumb ass for not being born knowing it.
I feel like, every pro wordpress person who i heard tout how great this supposedly is, just ran a con on me to make me feel like a worthless moron.
I told a ‘friend’ that i was having to track down CSS rules in the dom inspector as the only way i could figure out how to change or do anything, and, how that seems to defeat the purpose of its ‘ease of use’, and, he got mad….i guess, because: there is an ‘easier way’??, but: what is it then? i’ve been trying to figure out what it is i’m supposed to be doing for a few days now, and, i feel shitty, because: i could have had a good start on building from scratch by now.

    Hi there,

First, apologies for your troubles and frustrations. Sometimes, frustration is part of the learning process. Personally, I tend to recommend WordPress to people because of its greater potential or capabilities. In my opinion, there are competing products that are easier to use, but those are also a lot more limited.

If it’s not easy for you, it definitely does not mean that you are a worthless moron (your term). You can learn a lot from your mistakes and troubles, if you have the time and the inclination. Anyone who is being honest about working with WordPress would have to admit to running out of patience on one or more occasions. <g> Get help. Keep going.

Don’t be too bothered if it isn’t always easy or if it seems easier for other people sometimes. Sometime–sooner or later–it will be easier for you.

Second, you have accidentally posted in the wrong forum for the version of WordPress that you are using. It is a common mistake. This forum only supports sites that are hosted on WordPress.com.

You are working with a version of WordPress that allows for other hosting options. Fortunately, there is also a community support forum where you can seek assistance with that version:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

If or when you post there, try to figure out the next thing you want to do, or your most immediate barrier, and maybe ask for help with that issue. Good luck!
