Can anyone tell me please who this is from and if it’s genuine ? I am a complete beginner to blogging and judging by what this guy says, if I’ve got any chance of optimising my blog I need to go back to university to learn how to do it. Is it safe to click on the link that they provided ? Also, I didn’t think you could use plug-ins with wordpress.com ?? please advise, below is a copied and pasted version of the message:

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin

    Hi ambientedesign,

You’re right. Plugins are not allowed in WordPress.com. Just ignore the message. It’s actually a marketing/promotion strategy for a plugin.

It’s spam crap – I get several EXACT copies of the same things every day – mark it as “Spam”

This is just spam. Join Akismet to trap spams.

Ok, thank you everyone, I thought so. Someone just trying to blind me with seo science in order to sell me something I presume. Can anyone tell me though please, what are H1, H2, & H3 tags ? and do I need to know about all this stuff ? Is my blog doomed to be left at the bottom of the seo heap if I don’t attend to this kind of thing ??

    @ambientedesign,

I don’t use any H tags in my posts. I use only Bold for subtitles and Italics for accentuating.

Forget about indulging in SEO activities yourself. WordPress will take care of the SEO part.

From my experience, I would say, the secret to a high Google rank and a good Alexa Traffic rank is to post good meaningful articles frequently.

I launched my blog “Impressions” (http:// tvaraj.com) in January 2012. Since then, I have 871 posts to my credit and have had more than 856,210 views. One particular article titled “News: A woman gave birth to 11 baby boys in Surat, India” has been viewed more than 258,500 times.

My Google Rank is 3 and my Alexa Traffic Rank is 201,964 today.

So, my secret is: “write good meaningful articles and post frequently.”

That’s SPAM. No reputable person working in SEO would ever in a million years submit such a comment.

Aksimet is a learning engine. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it’s spam. On the spam that Akismet catches on it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 30 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. Set up comment moderation, if you have not already done so, because allowing anonymous commenting on your blog is like putting out the welcome mat for spammers.

This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

I reduce spam by using this setting:

    3. Automatically close comments on articles older than __ days – This setting can be used to have comments closed on articles that are X days old. As an example, if you only want articles to accept comments for 30 days you would check the box and type 30 into the text field. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#other-comment-settings

And I moderate comments too. Comment moderation http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

    Discussion Settings
    Other comment settings
_Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
_Users must be registered and logged in to comment

You may not want to moderate comments but here’s a reality check. The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.

re: H tag use in posts
    Read this please http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/05/08/wordpress-com-heading-tags-from-h1-h6/
It’s important for WordPress.com bloggers to learn what HTML heading tags are and how to use them properly. I visit blogs here every day that demonstrate the bloggers do not know how to use H tags properly.

@tvaraj: writing good, meaningful content does sound like a very good philosophy to follow, good to hear and I will endeavour to follow your advice. @timethief: thank you for all the detailled info – looks like I’ve now got some homework to do!
