I removed "wordpress" from the URL, now my wp.com site is "broken"

Where ther was once a paid, custom themed portfolio site, now sits a text-only page with all the the site’s content; looking like it’s 1989…

While in my custom site’s dashboard, on the General Settings tab/page, I changed the URL in the first box, from “…jessecoleman2k.wordpress.com” to “…jessecoleman2k.com” – the page took me back to the login page and I now i cant even access my free blog site.

I was so close to getting my blog to be a part of my portfolio site… but I finally did it- I blew it all up… damn me– Damn Me all to hell!

But really, please, can someone help? I’d hire a pro if I wasn’t going out of the country this weekend. Please, please tell me it’s an easy fix, like going onto my ftp server and editing a text doc, or asking my ISP to reset something…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You changed the URL of your blog to be the URL of a website that already exists.

http://jessecoleman2k.com/ is not hosted by WordPress.com. It is not even a domain that is mapped to a WordPress.com blog.

I suggest you go to your MY BLOGS page and get to the dashboard of the blog from there, http://jessecoleman2k.wordpress.com/wp-admin and UNDO THE CHANGE YOU MADE.

That is not how you connect a blog here to a website elsewhere. What you want to do is buy domain mapping and map a subdomain. It’s very common, not difficult, but you have to be meticulous about it because mistakes with domains are, as you have discovered, a huge pain in the ass.

I just confirmed that I do have a backup of my entire wp folder from March of this year- is there a file or two in there that can save me?

WordPress.com blogs do not have “folders” so you are talking about the WordPress.org site. We can’t help you with that; you need to be in their forums for help with that.

Ah- thank you @raincoaster… As you can see, I know just enough to be dangerous- wish me luck.
