I screwed up, help!

  • Unknown's avatar

I deactivated my account and lost my domain name and now I’m regretting this hasty decision big time! (I didn’t read the fine print well enough.)

Is there anyway you guys could ignore my refund request, keep the $99, retrieve my domain name, and allow me to remain a paying member?

Please get in touch if you’d be so kind.

Ok so my refund went through, but I’m still waiting to hear back about my domain. Can someone please help?

I have flagged this for staff attention to help you

Sometimes a new domain name registration can be retrieved and other times the name will need to revert to the wild where it can be registered again

I don’t understand what you mean by “sometimes” with all due respect.

I spoke with a few different people and they said that WordPress basically controls that domain name for a period of 60 days. In other words, it supposedly remains in their domain repository, correct? No one else is allowed to access it for that time I believe.

But thank you for flagging this post. I appreciate it!

When a name registration is canceled it goes back to the registrar – in the case of a new registration the retrieve window is a few days – then the name is usually released (but it is at the discretion of the regiatrar) – – if it is a domain renewal then the 60 day period (give or take a bit) kicks in – the first few days the name can be renewed with no penalty – then after a few days staff help is needed to renew the registration but there is no penalty – then the domain name goes into redemption where it is still under the control of the registrar and can be renewed with staff help but the registrar has a penalty that needs to be paid for the renewal – the penalty is set by the registrar – not WordPress.COM

Is there a way to get in touch with the registrar or am I basically at the mercy of WordPress.com at the moment?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have flagged this for the staff to help you – they are the ones that need to contact the registrar

    Staff! Where are you! Haha

Thanks again auxclass, someone got in touch with me last night.

Now I’m guessing what may happen will be that I will be reinstated on WordPress.com, but then what steps would I take to move to WordPress.org?

I read that I would have to just change hosts and then access WordPress.org’s site and go on from there, correct?

Get things set up at your new host – then change the name servers to your new host
