I seem to have 2 blogs after I renamed my site URL

  I seem to have two blogs after I renamed mine. Is this normal? Will it go away after a few days and become available to the public again? My main one, listed, is the one I’m happy with but you can still search the old one and I don’t want that. I’ve put it to private, but I want it to be deleted and available for anyone who wants to use it again.

  If you chose not to delete the old address while making the change, this is normal, yes.

  Will it go away after a few days and become available to the public again?

  I’ve put it to private, but I want it to be deleted and available for anyone who wants to use it again.

  If you register a blog you’re the owner for as long as WordPress.com continues to exist, unless you delete or transfer it. If you delete it, it will be gone forever and no one, including you, will ever be able to use it again. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

  I suggest the following two options:

  1) Keep that blog and keep it set to private. You can then use it as a test blog to try out new themes, or as a backup for your main blog.

  2) Make sure all content is deleted and set it back to public, with a message on the front page that this address is available for transfer, and then include a contact form so someone can reach you if they want that address. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-wordpress-com-user-or-account

  Or you could permanently delete it if neither option works for you. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

  but you can still search the old one and I don’t want that.

  That blog will still appear in search results for some time and even the content that used to be there can still be cached with search engines. You can contact every search engine on the net and ask them to remove the cached content, but that’s not really worth the trouble. Focus on creating new content at the new address, and it will quickly start to push the old address down in search results.
