I seem to have futzes my home page

Greetings! I apparently inadvertently killed my home page. Help! It shows while in Admin, but shows a 404 when attempting to reach it directly. Site is writesquire.com. Sorry to hassle you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Futzed my home page. Nerves …

Never mind. Found my notes from original setup. (For others … find the support page for your chosen theme, which tells you how to setup the home page.)

    Thanks anyway. (Whew!) 😚

And she’s back. Had a friend doublecheck. Still throwing a not found error, yet it appears within my browser. I need your expertise folks. I’m completely baffled here.

Thanks, but there’s Content. I backdated some posts, and also posted earlier today. I *think* it might be because the slug insists on appearing as home-2, rather than home.

What baffles me is that it shows for preview, but and in my browser. I’m guessing the latter flows from the cache. In any event, we’ve got some serious user error here. Still trying to bring that home page back.

    Works: writesquire.com/home-2/
    Nope: writesquire.com

Does it take time for the new page to register with the server or something??

It’s a mystery. Maybe you will want to type “modlook” (without the quotation marks) into the Tags text box in the right-hand sidebar here on this page, and click “Add”…and then a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable moderator will take a look.

They really know what they’re doing…and I’m sure will get you going again.

Here’s something I just found that might help…it’s on this page:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/slugs/

“Sometimes, you may find a slug has a number at the end of it that you didn’t put there.

This happens when WordPress detects the same slug being used more than once.

Because the slug is the identifying part of each post, page, category or tag’s address, they have to be unique.

An example of when this might happen is if you wrote a post entitled “Happy New Year!” The default slug would be happy-new-year.

If you were to write a similar post with the same title the following year, the default slug would be happy-new-year-2 to ensure that the two posts had unique addresses.

If you’d like to change the slug to something unique, rather than have the number added, you can edit the post and identify the current slug, and modify it right there!”

You’re such a sweetie. I found that earlier, then switched to
    index.
Still didn’t work. I’m thinking returning to the regular
    home
slug would cure the problem, but that “slug” just slugged my head instead. It’s in love with that -2 business.

Love how I kill stuff during off hours. 😩

    Ha!! Bingo!

I went into Pages, and noticed the original Home, with a house icon next to it. Selected it, then hit Publish. It worked. I checked from every browser at my disposal. Then I went back into Pages, and deleted the (second) Home page I created today.

In short, I forgot I had already created it weeks ago. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks so very much folks!!! Now let me see if I can delete that modlook tag.

    I’m happy it’s working now. :)
