I set up a WordPress account before I got a host, how do I connect them?
-
I set up a WordPress account and new domain. I then realized I wanted to go through HostGator to host my site. I signed up with them, etc. Then I did a QuickInstall of wordpress, as I was following video instructions. It then emailed me a link with my admin URL, username, and random password. I clicked the admin URL and it says ‘403 Forbidden. Request forbidden by administrative rules.’ I’m assuming it’s because I already have an admin account for my new website. I just want to delete the first account I created and continue on with that link in my email via HostGator, but I don’t want to give up my domain. Someone help me please!

Hi shelbs20
If you’ve registered your domain with WordPress.com you have three options all explained under Move Your Domain to Another Host.

You are dealing with two different systems here, a WordPress.com hosted site and a self-hosted WordPress.org site. For more on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org please see this article: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you choose to continue with hosting your WordPress site at HostGator and not at WordPress.com, you can contact HostGator support or WordPress.org Support for more help with your issue.
