  I currently have a WordPress account at eduk8te.com I am now trying to build a webpage for katemcmoore.com. What I was trying to do was to simply change my domain name from eduk8te to katemcmoore. In doing so I paid $96 to WordPress, which I believe was unnecessary. Can you help?

  Just to clarify, your old site was eduk8te.wordpress.com, correct? And were you trying to change the site URL to katemcmoore.wordpress.com or katemcmoore.com?

  You have the free site eduk8te.wordpress.com not eduk8te.com. All you needed to do was purchase an upgraded plan for that site and create your custom domain for it when logged in to the eduk8te account.

  No, a paid plan is necessary to have a custom domain. There is no harm done in having two sites under different accounts, a free and a paid for site, though you could have achieved what you wanted with a Personal plan which is cheaper than a Premium plan.
