I think I may have accidentally clicked on an attachment sent to me by a spammer or phisher concerni
-
I am afraid that I may have compromised my blog and/or my email account by opening accidentally an attachment sent to me by some unknown person concerning a ten month old post. I think they may have been a hacker or a phisher or a spammer or some other horror. I marked the email as spam. I see in my account that there were a large number of emails sent to me that were marked as spam also, but this is the first I knew about it. Apparently word press automatically puts such things in a spam file? I never knew about it before now how many spammers or hackers or heaven knows what kinds of creatures have been stalking me. Is there any way to know if I have been compromised by opening that link?
Here is a copy of the email:

Oh, please tell me, did I blow it?
I see that in my file of other spam (the one of which I just now became aware) that there are similar addresses.I am quite inclined to stop blogging and to delete this account and to delete my email account. this is SO creepy. I THOUGHT my blog was private, But now, I see that it is NOT.
PLEASE help and advise me, PLEASE?

Please don’t worry, I bet your blog is ok! I understand that WordPress.com has excellent built-in protection from hackers. In the meantime, I am tagging your thread “modlook” so a staff person will be sure to look at it.
Be patient, it may take a little longer than usual because of the holiday. I really doubt that you have anything to worry about, so don’t let this destroy your new year!
It isn’t clear to me from your post here whether you opened an email in your own email program and clicked on the link?
Or if you clicked on a link within a spammy reader’s comment on your blog?
WordPress would only be able to block comments to your blog as spam, not emails in your email inbox…
But, either way, I really doubt your blog will end up being hacked because of this. If it was a spammy comment on your blog, you can mark it as “spam” in your “manage comments” tab.
WordPress’s spam blocker is very good, it probably blocks hundreds of spam comments for every one that gets through, but a few will get through now and then and require you to mark them as spam.
I really am not an expert at all so will leave this to the staff and more knowledgeable volunteers, but please relax, wait for someone to answer, and don’t worry too much!
Happy New Year!

Ah, on rereading your post I see you were shocked at all the spam in your spam filter! That is totally normal, does not mean you are being stalked, we all have probably hundreds of spam comments blocked by WordPress every day. One of the great things about wordpress.com is that we don’t have to manage our spam, WordPress does it for us.
I have no idea where they all come from, I’m sure most are automatically generated and not targeted specifically at you — just thrown out at any and all sites…
