I thought finding a theme like this would be simple…

    I’m looking for a theme to use as the foundation for a new blog. I’m willing to do whatever CSS coding is necessary.

    Obviously (?), I can’t touch the PHP code, so I need to start with something at least somewhat similar to my ultimate goal.

    So, I’ve been searching through the WP.com themes… and coming up empty.

    What I want:
    – Three columns. Two if absolutely necessary
    – Author name at the beginning of the post
    – Threaded comments. Unthreaded if necessary.
    – Numbered comments. We get lots of comments.
    – Proper CSS on widgets so I can adjust widgets as needed

    The hard one seems to be the last two. Any ideas?

    The most wide open theme here is Sandbox and it supports 2 or 3 column designs. The only two things I’m not sure about would be the numbered comments.

    The widget types all have separate id’s and classes.

    Sandbox is close… but does seem to be missing some things. Will dig deeply on it.

    I’m having another problem that appears to be a bug. I’ll post that up separately.
