I thought my tumblr import worked and backed up my posts, now most of the posts don’t work.

I imported my tumblr to have it backed up. When I go to posts, recent ones show up, but if i keep going further down the bulk of my posts are useless. All it says in these faulty posts is the supposed source of the original tumblr post, but the link just links back to the useless wordpress post. Have I lost the majority of my tumblr posts forver?

  • That’s very odd. What is the URL of the Tumblr site you imported from?

    https://therecanonlybeonetrashman.tumblr.com/

Thank you for the help, I really appreciate someone looking into this.

  • Hi there,

Can you provide an URL of an example post that has this problem. I scrolled pretty far down and the source link was still linking to your Tumblr blog. Also, since your Tumblr blog is still up and running, any content you are not seeing on your WordPress.com blog should still be able to be retrieved from the original Tumblr blog.

    Let me know, thanks!

Here is an example of one such post. Unfortunately many posts that I value were deleted off my tumblr blog, which I had backed up on wordpress, but they have fallen victim to the faulty back up as linked above.

  • Hm, yeah the entire source of that post is:

Source: pressuregauge

Was it brought over that way, or did it change at some point?

It had backed up everything originally, all though im not 100% sure. I checked and never had a problem till recently, when I found out that a lot of the posts are like this. Also, I’m not to familiar with programming so im not sure what the line of code means. All i know is it links to nothing and no image is found.

  • Were some of your Tumblr blog content deleted because of its mature content? Also, were those blogs showing on the WordPress.com end before they were deleted?

  • Unknown's avatar

some were yes, however the majority of the posts that are not showing on the wordpress is not adult content. Only 3 or 4 were deleted from the tumblr because of “mature” content, while hundreds on the wordpress are not showing.

  • Are you able to get a fresh new export from Tumblr? Comparing the file size should tell you if the missing posts are included in this new attempt.

not sure what you mean. Ive imported the tumblr with wordpress’s import feature. I never saw any file sizes.

  • Hi there,

It appears you’ve used up 100% of your free media storage of 3GB, meaning it’s not possible to add any more images to your WordPress.com site. This would also prevent us from importing any images when you import new posts from Tumblr, and that is most likely what happened here – that post was imported, but the media added to it was not, because you’ve run out of space.

You can increase your available space by upgrading to any of our paid plans. Then delete the affected posts, delete them from the Trash folder as well, and run the import again. Then it should import any posts from Tumblr that are not on the WordPress.com site already, including the media files for those posts.

If any of the affected posts have since been deleted from Tumblr itself, there won’t be any way to get them back from our end as we can’t restore anything that wasn’t already on WordPress.com to start with.
