    Hi there,

Did you setup your domain supersoccerworldwide.com with Bluehost hosting? It looks like the issue here is that your domain is still pointed to WordPress.com name servers. Therefore, you’re likely seeing your WordPress.com Dashboard not your WordPress.org self-hosted Dashboard. To fix this, you’ll need to change the name servers on your domain to Bluehost name servers. Generally, that would be:

    ns1.BlueHost.com
    ns2.BlueHost.com

On the same token, if you’re not going to be using your domain supersoccerworldwide.com with WordPress.com any longer, I can remove the Domain Mapping upgrade from your blog supersoccerworldwide.wordpress.com. That would mean that your domain would stop directing to WordPress.com. Would you like me to do that?

Try changing the name servers to point to Bluehost and let me know if you start seeing the plugin option for your self-hosted blog!

Hi Jeremy, thanks for replying. Just a couple of questions. I want to keep the domain supersoccerworldwide.com but I assume it just transfers to wordpress.org. Is that right? Will it mean anything changes to my site? Or is it just thatits hosted elsewhere? Sorry, it’s just that I’m not 100% sure. If that’s the case, could you please do that for me? If you do that, then do I still need to change the name servers or do you do that also? If I have to do it, can you explain how, as I don’t know how. Thanks again for your help.

    Hi there,

Your domain (supersoccerworldwide.com) isn’t registered at WordPress.com. You’ve just purchased the mapping upgrade that points your domain to your WordPress.com site. If I remove the mapping upgrade, all of your content will still be available at supersoccerworldwide.wordpress.com. Removing the mapping upgrade will just prevent you from paying for an upgrade you no longer need (since your site will be self-hosted).

It looks like your registrar (where you registered the domain) is at GoDaddy. With that domain, you’re going to be using Bluehost hosting. Think of name servers on a domain as a sort of address that helps the domain know where it should be looking for information. Currently, your name servers at GoDaddy are pointed to WordPress.com. Coupled with the mapping upgrade at WordPress.com, that’s why your domain is still displaying your WordPress.com content. We want to give it “directions” so to speak to point it to Bluehost instead.

You should be able to change the name servers on your GoDaddy domain following the instructions here:

    http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/664/setting-nameservers-for-your-domain-names

Currently, they will probably look like this:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

You’ll need to change them to this:

    ns1.BlueHost.com
    ns2.BlueHost.com

At that point, your domain will begin looking at Bluehost for information to display. At Bluehost, you’ll need to be sure you’ve installed WordPress.org software (they have a tutorial here). This will result in a blank site. However, you can export/import your WordPress.com content following the instructions here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

Can you give those steps a try? That will get you mostly up and running! Also, please just reply back to confirm, and I’ll remove the upgrade from your account!

Hi Jeremy, I thinking have that sorted now. I’ve done everything you said, and exported all my post and it seems fine. As regards removing the upgrade, what do you mean? Did I not have to pay for an upgrade? Could you explain why?

I also can’t access my site on google chrome on my laptop, it keeps telling me there’s too many redirects. I don’t have an issue with the google chrome app on ipad though.

I’m not really sure what you mean by domain mapping, but I hope that’s it’s all sorted out.

    Thanks again for your help

    Hi there,

Perfect! It looks like supersoccerworldwide.com is now loading your self-hosted site. That’s great!

With regards to Google Chrome on your laptop, can you try clearing your cache? Instructions can be found here:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

The error message is likely just a browser caching error.

As for the upgrade, you purchased a domain mapping upgrade, which basically replaces your WordPress.com default URL, supersoccerworldwide.wordpress.com, with your custom domain, supersoccerworldwide.com. However, currently, you’re using your domain supersoccerworldwide.com with a self-hosted site, so the domain mapping upgrade isn’t really useful to you anymore. The only way it would be useful is if you wanted to move back to WordPress.com in the future. If you’re confident you would like to stay with a self-hosted site, I can remove the upgrade so you don’t get charged for something you’re not using going forward.

Let me know how you would like to proceed!

Hi Jeremy, again thanks for your help. Yes, you can remove the upgrade for me. Thanks. Just one final question. I had over 40 followers of my blog, but since I changed to a self-hosting site, I don’t have any and blogs I had previously subscribed to are not there anymore. Do I have to re subscribe to these blogs? And do my previous followers still get notified when I put up a post? Thanks

    Hi there,

Yes, you can remove the upgrade for me.

    Done!

I had over 40 followers of my blog, but since I changed to a self-hosting site, I don’t have any.

I can go ahead and transfer your subscribers for you. Just confirm that you would like the subscribers transferred from supersoccerworldwide.wordpress.com to the self-hosted site supersoccerworldwide.com!

Blogs I had previously subscribed to are not there anymore. Do I have to re subscribe to these blogs?

Are you referring to blogs you were subscribed to and reading yourself? If so, those subscriptions live at WordPress.com so you’ll need to visit WordPress.com to read those. If you’re referring to subscribers that are subscribed to your blog, I can move those subscribers. Just confirm as mentioned above!

Do my previous followers still get notified when I put up a post?

Once I move your subscribers to your self-hosted blog, your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before. WordPress.com followers, however, will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site, which they can do if you’ve added the Subscriptions widget. For this reason, we recommend posting to your old blog supersoccerworldwide.wordpress.com, and letting your followers know that you’re moving!

Other questions? Throw them my way!

Hi Jeremy, yes can you please transfer my subscribers to my new self-hosted site at supersoccerworldwide.com Thank you. For the moment I think everything is good, so again, thanks so much for your help. I’m quite new to all of this so all the help is much appreciated. Bye
