I use to have a Featured Image Option. How do I get it back?
-
Up until a few months ago I had the option of setting a featured image for each post. This allowed me to choose the photo that best represented the post content. However a while ago I noticed that I no longer have this option – it use to be at the bottom right hand corner of each New Post or Edit Post page. When I expand the Screen Options menu – this option isn’t listed there either.
The particular thumbnail image that accompanies each post now appears to be chosen randomly – the most recent one isn’t even one of my own photos. I would really like the option of choosing the featured image for each post. Why is this option no longer available to me and how can I get it back?
Thanks,
Sue

Thanks for your reply. No I wasn’t using a different theme – I’ve used Quintus from the beginning with a paid upgrade that allows for customizing. I definitely was able to set featured images – maybe it’s the upgrade that allowed me to do that but for the last few months the ‘Set Featured Image’ option no longer appears at the bottom of the New Post page. Maybe I inadvertently changed something when customizing?

As I said, Quintus doesn’t support featured images – it never did. See this post of mine:

Or see the relevant Support doc:

If you used to have a FI option while using Quintus, then this was a dashboard mistake that has been corrected. -
Thanks again for replying. I certainly believe you when you reiterate that Quintus never supported featured images, and that it must have been a dashboard mistake, so the follow-up questions are:
1. for the top posts and pages widget, the thumbnail image that represents each post – how is it chosen? I used to choose it and now it’s chosen for me. Could I maybe affect this by the order the images appear in my post?
2. does the customization upgrade I paid for give me any options for choosing FI’s, and if not is there an additional upgrade I can purchase that will? From a programming standpoint it’s obviously possible to have the FI option on Quintus, since I did in fact have it, albeit mistakenly.
Thanks for your help. -
You’re welcome.
1. I tested things, and it seems that if the images have been uploaded via the Add Media tool of the post in question, the TPP widget will display the image you uploaded last (no matter where it shows on the post); if the images haven’t been uploaded this way, the widget will display the topmost image of the post. So (assuming you upload the images the first way), after you’ve finished editing the post you can re-upload the image you prefer, without inserting it into the post.
2. No: upgrades don’t change what features a theme does or doesn’t support. -
Thanks so much – a fairly simple workaround and it seems to have been successful. Thanks again.
