I want a wordpress site name that is taken, but has not been used in 8 years

  I want a site name that is taken, but has not been used in 8 years. I am looking for http://www.theriver.wordpress.com which exists but clearly has not been used in a very long time. Is there any way to free up the name? Thanks!

  Hi Mindy,

  Once a WordPress.com URL is registered, it isn’t possible to register it again, even if the original blog is no longer in use. If you would like, you could try to contact the current owner to see if they will transfer the blog to you. However, it doesn’t look like the user has any contact information on the URL currently. Unfortunately, I cannot provide contact details for the owner of that blog.
