I want advice
-
Hi I am currently signed on as a free blogger and am wanting to create a website now. I have purchased a domain name through GoDaddy (www.aquaticheart.com) and want to use this as my website address. What does wordpress offer in this regard?
I would like to speak to a person rather than a FAQ platform. Thank you.
GiovannaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The subscription for domain mapping is $13.00 per year for one blog.
If you would like to use your domain name purchased elsewhere and map from your free hosted wordpress.com blog to it, then you will first need to set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

WordPress.com will seamlessly strip out the www. for your convenience. www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc. These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
This URL http://www.aquaticheart.com will seamlessly redirect from http://aquaticheart.wordpress.com/ to http://aquaticheart.com
If you aren’t clear about what domain mapping is and what it does then you can read this > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/04/02/do-i-need-a-domain/
I also recommend reading this as well Domain Mapping – Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
Note: This is a peer support forum where Volunteers and Staff work cooperatively to deliver WordPress.com support. There is no phone support here and we Volunteers do not provide support by email. Volunteers who have been answering questions here for years longer than Staff have been on Staff answer most questions posted into forum threads and Staff monitor. When Volunteers cannot provide the required support we flag threads for Staff attention.

Ok… I see. Can I easily change my blog site to a proper website and if so what upgrade would be best?

Yes – but no upgrade required – just choose a theme that you don’t think is “bloggy” – you can also use more Pages than Posts, but that will make search engine indexing a bit slower
Me – I just don’t tell people that my web site uses “blog” software and is hosted on a “blog” site

No upgrade is required to change the structure of the blog from being post based top page based.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication.
A website is a page based site designed to operate as a one way means of communication ie. a noticeboard.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based. For greater clarity read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
Then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/
On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.
