I want followers of my blog to get e-mail by default.

I want all my followers to get an e-mail by default rather than notifications going into the reader. We used to get e-mail but that seems to have changed. I know that I can go into my account and update my settings, but many of the followers of our blog are not very technologically savvy so I’m afraid asking them to set it themselves will result in them no longer using the blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If they have not subscribed via email, you cannot force them to do it.

If you are using the Beep Beep Boop editor, there have been reports that it does not send out the emails. Try the Classic Editor instead.

It’s a private blog so everyone has to register with wordpress.com in order to get to our blog so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I’ve also changed my account settings and I’m getting notifications, but notifications for new posts and comments were both set to off (I’m guessing after an update to the system since notifications stopped soon after the Beep Beep Boop editor showed up). I just want to turn those back on for everyone.

    This doesn’t make any difference.

You can’t change your subscribers’ settings. They will have to change them themselves.

Fantastic. So they changed everyone’s default notification and left us no way to return it to what we wanted. That is just grand.

    Thanks for your response

@raincoaster – we haven’t had any issues with the new editor sending out email notifications. If you see tickets about this, please modlook them so we can take a look.

@mstanley – If you give me an email address that should have gotten an email but didn’t, I can check our logs. I can assure you, we do not change user settings at any time. Each user is in control of their email preferences.

I was testing notifications with the following people/addresses:
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
The mstanley123 address was the only one that got anything from the posts that were published in the last two weeks, and that was only after finding in that notifications were set to off the settings for my account under “Blogs I Follow” and reconfiguring them.

Thanks for the email addresses. I took a look at our logs. Unfortunately, they only go back two weeks, so I can’t see far enough back to see when emails stopped at your address.

I do see that email notifications for your site are turned off for Kirk and Mary. Although, Mary has emails turned on for other blogs.

They’ll need to go turn on email notifications here:

Maybe I wasn’t clear. Everyone had their e-mail settings turned on and it was working, and then everyone’s stopped. I updated mine, but Kirk and Mary haven’t yet because I was trying to figure out why everyone’s e-mail notifications stopped working all of a sudden. The followers of this blog aren’t the most tech savvy so I can’t imagine we’ll be able to get them to understand how to update their settings to get e-mail notifications working again. Can you tell me what happened to cause them to all stop working?

I’m honestly not sure what could have caused that to happen. Can you narrow down when this might have happened and I can ask the developers if there were any anomalies around that time?
