  Yes, you can keep your domain with GoDaddy and still use the WordPress.com to build your site, In order to use your custom-domain with WordPress.com, you need to upgrade your plan with one of those plans, each plan gives you free domain credit which you can either use to register a new Domain or Map a domain you already own.
