I want my money back
-
hello. the site told me I needed to get a premium plan to get plug ins. though all the tutorials on YouTube are saying that you can install plug ins on the free version. I have just paid $120 for the premium plan, so that I can get plug-ins, now it’s telling me I need to upgrade AGAIN to be able to use plug ins? you’ve got to be kidding me! Also, for some reason you are asking me to verify thelaunchpadqld.com, but I can not verify that, as my address has a .com.au
If I have to upgrade again order to be able to use the plug ins. I want my money back and I will go elsewhere, because I believe this is very misleading.

There is no need to be rude.
We can’t be much of a help as your site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform but is hosted by GoDaddy. You must contact GoDaddy support to solve this problem.
-
The YouTube videos you have been looking at, were about the open source wordpress.org NOT about the wordpress.com platform.
If you want to use third party plugins on the wordpress.com platform, you must upgrade to the Business Plan. This is very clearly indicated when you take a closer look at our paid plans and features – https://wordpress.com/pricing/
https://thelaunchpadqld.com/ is running on the wordpress.com platform, http://thelaunchpad.com.au/ isn’t.
You can cancel your purchases at https://wordpress.com/me/purchases. Also read about our Refund Policy – https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/#refund-policy.

Hi @rhicre8 I have merged your duplicate posts into this one thread to avoid any further confusion. Thanks for your understanding.
Also, for some reason you are asking me to verify thelaunchpadqld.com, but I can not verify that, as my address has a .com.au
A free domain is included in your Premium Plan, and it looks like you registered that as a new URL at the time you upgraded your site. You can cancel the domain, the plan (or both) by going to this page, as mentioned above: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/
If you click on each upgrade you see listed there, on the next page (for each) you will see the option to cancel. I can confirm you are within your refund period so a full refund will be processed.
though all the tutorials on YouTube are saying that you can install plug ins on the free version.
To clarify on this point, other hosts (like GoDaddy) use the free “open-source” version of the WordPress software, and that is the very DIY version of the platform that does not come with support. Because it is offered without support, a lot of folks create and share their own training materials on the web and over Youtube, but those training materials may not relate to features that are specific to WordPress.com.
Also worth pointing out that although the version of WordPress that other providers use is free, the cost of hosting the site is not. To use the free version of WordPress on another provider you will usually need to factor in any hosting costs, which are an equivalent cost to the upgrades we offer on WordPress.com.
We are a bit different though, in that we are a managed hosting provider who specializes only in WordPress (for most other hosts it’s just one of the many platforms they offer) and that give us several advantages including:
- built in security scanning and brute force login protection
- Automated updates to core software to eliminate any possible vectors for attack.
- Server-level performance improvements that are specific to the needs of WordPress
- in-house support for all sites we host, even free ones.
The ability to add plugins is a feature of the Business Plan, so your current plan will not be sufficient to add plugins. Can you tell us more about the site you are trying to set up? We have a lot of built-in functionality on WordPress.com (that would normally need to be added if you use the free version of the software, so possibly you may not need a plugin? We’re happy to take a closer look.
Thanks for the additional info!

I have a domain already, and it isn’t the one you say I registered with you. perhaps that happened as a mistake whilst I was going back and forth over these pages trying to find any way to get in contact with someone from there WordPress team.
the YouTubers were doing “build a site with WordPress” videos and were claiming you can get plug-ins like elementor for free on a free plan, so I was disappointed to find out that I need to purchase a plan to have access to “premium features”. so I spent $120 and got the premium plan, only to find out afterwards the premium plug-ins are not available on a premium plan. That is what I call misleading and deceptive. And then if I want a community on there its going to cost me another three or so hundred ontop of the $270 its going to cost to upgrade to the business plan just so I can have access to plug-ins?!
an upgrade to your plan is nowhere near the cost of a host. That is a ridiculous claim. But then again, it seems there are all these hidden costs that keep jumping out everywhere. I will be sure to leave online reviews for the service you are providing.

I did read the refund policy, which is the reason I haven’t gone through those steps as it is saying “remove plan” which means I would not be eligible for a refund- according to your refund policy.
I am requesting from whoever is running this this to cancel my plan and refund my money please.

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching back out.
the YouTubers were doing “build a site with WordPress” videos and were claiming you can get plug-ins like elementor for free on a free plan,
Do you have a link to this video please? It sounds like they’re perhaps giving out inaccurate or misleading information.
Whilst plugins are free to download, you would need to purchase hosting for the site itself, or use a WordPress.com Business plan. The confusion between self-hosted WordPress (which is what these YouTubers could be referring to), and WordPress.com. The differences are explained here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
an upgrade to your plan is nowhere near the cost of a host. That is a ridiculous claim. But then again, it seems there are all these hidden costs that keep jumping out everywhere.
A lot of YouTubers advocate Elementor, because it’s a free page builder – and it’s a trend. However, depending on the project and the website being built, you may not need it, and using this does put you in the realms of relying on a third party free product, whereby you may/may not get the support you need for your project.
What are you looking to build exactly? I’m wondering if Elementor is required, and if something else more streamline and cost effective (and scalable) could be used for your project.
From what I can see, a refund is possible and can be processed here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/ – but I want to hear more about your project before we get to that, if you’ll permit me.
Speak soon.

Thank you for your response, and for the link to the article, it was helpful. I am definitely confused! I was wanting to build a community with buddy boss. Is that available to purchase if I decided to download WordPress.org?
-
Hey there,
Glad to see it was useful! It looks like we can get somewhere with your project!
BuddyBoss is available to use with both WordPress.com and via self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org).
How the process between would work is:
Self-hosted || WordPress.org
- Find a hosting provider, secure a hosting package that would support WordPress
- Download WordPress from WordPress.org
- Install WordPress.org onto server (configure php environment, configure database, directories…etc.)
- Purchase and install Buddy Boss
- Build site.
WordPress.com
- Go to upgrades > plans > purchase the WordPress.com Business plan
- Purchase and install Buddy Boss
- Build site.
You’ll see from the above, we do a lot of the heavy lifting with regards to WordPress itself, leaving you with the fun and exciting process of building the site and building the audience (https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/)
Can I ask more about the community you’re looking to build, and what’s gravitated you toward Buddy Boss. The reason why I ask is because, although I’m sure Buddy Boss is awesome, there’s probably a free alternative out there, which would cut your costs down… Like BuddyPress – https://buddypress.org/.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I was after something that has the features included. like paid memberships, member profiles with private messaging, course creation etc.
so I was thinking WordPress.org would be better, although I bought a year with WordPress.com can you please still refund me for this as I was confused between the two platforms.
-
Hey there,
Many thanks for that additional information.
I was after something that has the features included. like paid memberships, member profiles with private messaging, course creation etc.
Got it, so for something like this I’d recommend a theme that has the bulk of this functionality built in, really to reduce the number of plugins needed (and/or a theme that work with certain plugins in mind, that come with the theme), and this is really to keep efficiencies up.
The likes of these themes you’ll find in Themeforest, and there are dozens: https://themeforest.net/category/wordpress?term=online%20course%20and%20forums – in these early stages, I’d recommend checking this out and vetting them with great care to make sure they can do what you wish to do – and it’s time well spent in my humble opinion, because it can save hassle further down the line when/if you need to make changes to the business/project.
so I was thinking WordPress.org would be better, although I bought a year with WordPress.com can you please still refund me for this as I was confused between the two platforms.
It looks like you’re 4 days past the refund window for the purchase of the, WordPress.com Premium plan – however, for what you’re building, you wouldn’t be able to use the WordPress.com Premium plan. You would want the WordPress.com Business plan – as this affords the ability to install plugins and themes.
You wouldn’t miss out financially from upgrading to the WordPress.com Premium plan to the WordPress.com Business plan as we’d take account your current purchase when it comes to upgrading, using our credit system which can be seen in your checkout page here.
so I was thinking WordPress.org would be better…
I can offer some advice at this point… WordPress.org is just where you download the software. The onus to source hosting that can handle the software, theme, plugins, traffic and activity is really on you at this point, and systems like the one you’re describing really need the most up to date environments WordPress as a software can afford.
We guarantee that environment and this can be seen here: https://wordpress.com/support/php-environment/. Essentially, we’re taking care of the headache of keeping the environment up to date as it should be as technology develops.
I’m hoping this is all useful information to you and the project – whichever you decide, this is exciting stuff. :)
