I want my old Address back

  • Unknown's avatar

I considering canceling my wordpress site permanently. There is simply no reason whatsoever for a user not to be able to retrieve their old blog address and name. None. If it is not being used there is simply no explanation for not being able to restore it. If wordpress is this limited in its functions, than I am now considering moving on to something more reasonable.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There were three warning you had to read and choose to ignore in order to delete a blog.
    Delete blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/
No recycling blog names > http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

You can purchase a domain and domain mapping for it if you wish.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

If that’s not what you wish to do and you cannot accept the fact you are not going to get the blog URL you deleted back, then by all means it’s time for you to move on. Obviously wordpress.com is not going to change their policy just because you are upset. So please do what you must do to be happy.

Ranting about things that are not likely to change servers no purpose.

If you don’t want to write for a while just stop writing many people do – or set your blog to Private so nobody can see it. then if you start writing again your blog is waiting – or you can delete all the content and leave a blank blog for the future.

I don’t think they have deleted their blog yet. Just pointing out to them that they did have a few options, no I doubt my advice will be taken. But thought I would point out the options besides deleting a blog.

~~ I know – I know and I’m sorry. :( I did not wish to provoke any more emotion.

You are referring to the blog linked to the uusername but this member already deleted another blog and the deleted blog what the thread is about.

It is the responses like these to other’s concerns on this issue on these forums which provoked my post and my decision.

  • Unknown's avatar

The volunteers in the forum, however, did not make the decision to make such deletions permanent: it was entirely a staff decision, and your ire should be directed towards them, rather than to the people who simply tell you how the staff have made it work.

@wintersbutterfly, this has been policy here since the beginning, and as has been said, there were warnings on the delete site page, and also in the confirmation email.

Until staff decides to change the policy, if you delete a blog, that URL, that blog address, cannot be reused by anyone. Read the support document on “recycling blog names” that timethief referenced as it lays out wordpress.COM reasoning.

i wanted to transfer my current blog content to a new blog address. I’ve created the new blog address then i try to change the address to using the newly created blog address. It’s fail. What i did next is delete the newly created blog address (which i wanted to use it for my new blog address). I tried to make use the deleted blog address, it’s still fail.

Pls help as i wanted to use the newly created blog address. (this new blog address having the same name with the current blog address but added with a word to uniquely name that the blog belongs to me.)

    TQ.

We can’t help you. As was said and reiterated above, if you deleted and confirmed the deletion, it’s gone for good. You might be able to buy the paid domain upgrade and get Whatever.com or Whatever.org instead.

I am Blogger who brings content AND people to this site. My input and opinion should be considered without rude comments as others have also received on this issue. As a C++ programmer and Internet and intranet designer and IIS System Admin. I questioned the need for this policy.
There was simply no reason whatsoever for the response I received in these post today or that others have recently received.
I was recommended by a friend to WordPress because of the quality of the site and the recognition of WordPress as a site which hosts quality Blogs.
I thought this site was beyond the mentality of “Amerika Love it or Leave It”. And all that seems to be provided on this “support forum”, at least in your responses, are rantings similar to juvenile adolescents flaming
WordPress should be concerned with the tone of the “volunteers” here as a business practice in YOUR attitude of attempting to run people off. I merely made a point and it is valid, and your response has more than the encouraged me over the last few hours to look into other options.
In your responses your attitudes should be a concern to WordPress, as should the resistance shown in here to listen to their Bloggers who bring traffic and business to this site. They are hosting, at present, my Blog. But I am also bringing traffic to their site. My concerns should be valued in their business interests – as should the attitude of their “volunteers” who in these responses, and those that have been archived ,are encouraging WordPress Bloggers to shut up or go away.
I will not be back to respond again. I will be forwarding these comments directly to WordPress and request the volunteers to end this thread as I will request directly from WordPress in my email after I submit this response.
These are not the first comments I have read in these forums to Bloggers concerns on this issue that have been as these are, very rude. And that is what prompted my original post.

To the OP – actually there are damn good reasons. Reasons which YOU, if you have the qualifications you claim to have, should know well enough. I am not going to go into the technical details here, however I am concerned about your motives if you claim not to know.

While I am NOT a volunteer here, I have volunteered on other sites and I can assure you that when answering the same question for the 50th or 100th time, one can be direct and to the point.

I have canceled my services with WordPress. The attitude and conduct in this forum is unprofessional as are the other response I have read to others in this forum who simply came in to ask a question and got the same crap I just did.
And if it represents WordPress than I have no interest in using there site.

@wintersbutterfly I am truly sorry your experience here was not what you had hoped.

Site deletion is indeed permanent here at WordPress.com. There is ample warning about this throughout the deletion process which includes a confirmation email that also requires click through.

I am closing thread this thread as it is spiraling downward, but @wintersbutterfly please do contact us directly via http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ if you would like to continue the discussion.
