I want the old style
-
I’m almost 80 years old and like to stick with things that are familiar. I have repeatedly rejected going to the new style of editing. But today-without consulting me–it changed to the new style and I can’t find the way to go back to the old style. PLEASE, please allow me to create my messages with the old style.

I understand. You can always access the traditional WordPress.com dashboard by going here:

THANKS for the reply. I went to “admin” but do not see where to change. Sorry to be a bother BUT this old lady really wants to get back to “the old style.”

The URL I posted is just the permanent link to the older “classic” interface. If you bookmark it, you will always be able to get back there. For example, you can click on “posts”, and then edit any of your posts from that page.
Also, if you click “edit” on a post and find yourself in the “new” editor, you can always scroll down to the bottom and click the “switch to classic mode” link as pictured here:

This is so embarrassing!! I cannot find the area you are referencing. I’ve been using computers for thirty years; I’m not a novice. This is so frustrating!! ~~ Believe me, I never want the new version. It may be advertised as easier, or better, but I find it very confusing!! ~~ I guess I’ll keep asking for help until I get back into the old style. ~~ Sincere THANKS for the assistance.

Hi Lorraine!
Let’s start on this page:
https://threequartersandcounting.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
From that page, can you hover over Posts and then click All Posts as shown here?
When you hover your cursor over a post item, you should see the following Edit link:
That should take you to the classic editor. Can you give that a try?
If you temporarily find yourself on the new editor, can you click the following link in the bottom right-hand corner?
-
Sincere THANKS for step-by-step.
I’ve tried your suggestions for ten minutes (or more). I’ve checked each of your steps and all is well until the very last one. There isn’t a choice “link in the bottom right-hand corner.”
The bottom says “Thank you for creating with WordPress….” Sometimes the message box pops up saying “Howdy…” but nobody comes on.
This is really really frustrating!!
THANKS in advance for any additional help.

Are you seeing a post editor that looks like this?
If so, that is the Classic Dashboard so you wouldn’t see that notice in the bottom right-hand corner (since you’re already on the Classic Dashboard). Let me know if the screenshot above matches what you’re seeing!
-
It has been twenty-four hours and nobody has gotten back to me with a resolution. Please do not leave me “stuck” in the advertised “improved” mode. ~~ Sincerely grateful for assistance!!

Hi Lorraine!
I see that Jeremey responded to you above. Can you confirm whether his screenshot displays what you’re seeing or not?
-
Shawna, I’ve tried everything suggested–several times. I’m still “stuck” in the new style. I’m not a novice–and I’m not afraid to go into otherwise unused areas. BUT, believe me, I did not accidentally or deliberately go into the new style. I’m very happy with the original. In fact, I wasn’t even using my computer when it happened!! Please guide me out of the awkward position I am in. ~~ Perhaps improve the software so other users don’t experience the problem I have. Sincere THANKS for your help!!

Thanks for your confirmation! That image is the classic editor, the one that’s been around for years. That’s where Josh and Jeremey were giving you directions to.
It sounds like this isn’t where you want to be though? Are you trying to view your posts in this editor:
-
Shawna, the area I worked with–for a couple of years–looked entirely different. I didn’t have all the stuff on the right side of the screen. Everything I worked with was at the top of the screen. Furthermore, at the bottom, I could edit the time and date. (I do that frequently because I want [example] three same-day messages to read from morning to night. I can set the time earlier, etc.)
-
Thanks for that description of what you used to use! It sounds like you’re used to using the editor with only one column. Here’s how to reset your editor to use one column:
- Open your editor here:
https://threequartersandcounting.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
- Click on “Screen Options” in the upper right
- Next to “Number of Columns” select 1
You should then see the screen in one column.
Let me know if that doesn’t look like what you’re used to!
- Open your editor here:
-
THANKS!! I was in a meeting or would have answered sooner.
I clicked your link and the wide area came up. I saw the message for “screen” and one, or two. I clicked “one.”
I created a new test message, saved it, and previewed it. From the preview (like it would appear on the web), I clicked “edit” and the screen I got was the one I don’t want. So-o-o-o-o—-when I am in the area I don’t want, how do I get to the one screen???
-
Thanks for that walk through! When you click on “edit” are you ending up in this editor?
You can get back to the classic editor by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page. In the bottom right there will be a little box that says “Switch to classic mode”:
Click on “classic mode”. That will take you back to the editor you like. And it will tell your browser to go to that one instead also, so your “edit” links should go to the right ones.
-
“Yes” to first question.
No, there isn’t a little box that says “Switch to classic mode.”
Is it possible there is more below (example)
Preview————————–Save Draft————-Publish to Three Quarters…I have a tool bar along the bottom showing program icons (and I’ve always had that tool bar along the bottom so that hasn’t changed or a new feature).
This is such a frustration!!!!!! I rarely have to ask for help when using a computer. I do not understand why things mysteriously changed. I’m the only one using this computer. I see no evidence that I’ve been hacked.
