  Advertising is, except for a couple very narrow exceptions, not allowed on wordpress.COM. For the exceptions, see the last sentence under “Affiliate marketing blogs” in the bottom set of bullet points in the “types of blogs” link below.

  Adsense can’t be added here except to extremely popular blogs in a special program. Contact staff when you’re getting tens of thousands of hits and they can hook you up.

  You can accomplish what you want in 2 ways:
  (1) Get a free hosted blogspot blog from Blogger (Google wons Blogger and Adsense);
  (2) Hire a web host and download free software from wordpress.org for self hosting.

  However, if you think you will make a significant amount of income from Adsense I advise you to undertake some due diligence. Google Adsense does not even cut you a check until you have accumulated enough penny ante ad clicks to earn $100. I know bloggers with high quality blogs who can write extremely well. Their blogs have page ranks of 5/10 and 6/10 and both over 20,000 visitors every month. It took them a year to earn a measley $16.00 from Adsense.

  Ha, I’ve got some Typepad experience. Good luck with that.

  If you’re going self-hosted, you’re far better off with WP.org than Typepad, Moveable Type, etc. If you never get any comments, you’ll know why: their commenting system is BORKED.
