I want to be able to ad affiliate links from Amazon and other sites to make money with my blog. I have the free version now. I am unable to post the links so they work with Amazon’s rules. You can only use their links and it has to be done a certain way or they boot you.

Please read http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/ The Amazon widget code will not work on a WordPress.COM hosted blog.
1. WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert text affiliate links within post and page content to most third-party affiliate programs, provided they are not the primary content of the site in question.
2. Image affiliate links in posts and pages and any banners, affiliate links in sidebar or footer widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.

Many folks have a delusional expectation of making much money from a blog. In fact, very few people make a significant income from advertising.
Provided you are selling only what you yourself make or a service that you personally provide you have two options.
(1) Know that the only instructions that will work for posting a PayPal donation button on a WordPress.com blog are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/(2) If you set up an Ecommerce site somewhere else online you can create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and include a custom link to that site in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links
Some bloggers create a contact form and after the people have made a PayPal donation they provide the link to a private page for downloading files. Maybe that will work for you.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/Otherwise, no blogger initiated advertising is allowed on WordPress.com blogs. The only blogs that can be equipped for ecommerce are those with the $299. per year business upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/ecommerce/
The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains.

http://en.wordpress.com/apply-for-wordads/Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed.

WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi, there. Here’s some information from Amazon on how to create links that will work.
https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/help/t64/a1
As long as you have your affiliate ID at the end of the link as specified, it ought to work for Amazon. You don’t have to use the banner embeds in order to satisfy Amazon.
Here’s some detail on what is allowed on WordPress.com with affiliate links.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/
I hope this helps.

You can add them to any WordPress.com site, so long as you comply with the information at that second link. It doesn’t have to be a paid site.

Amazon is very picky about what you use. I copy and pasted a photo promoting their product and attached their link to it and they booted me from the program. You have to use ONLY the banner links they tell you to, but it cannot be copy and pasted like you would copy and paste a normal pic with a link. It has to be their way and their way only. I can do a text link only but you are NOT allowed to post a price even in your post because they don’t allow it. I have been around and around with them for days now.

I appreciate the help. Just very frustrated. So if I upgrade to the 299 wordpress can I use the affiliate links with the banners and text? Or, is that not allowed with them either. Maybe I should delete the blog altogether.

Regardless of whether it’s a free site or paid, the image affiliate links and banners are a no-no, as timethief noted above.
