I want to buy ChristinaLuke.com but…
-
I want to make my blog seem more professional so I wanted to remove the 13. I would like to make my blog ChristinaLuke.wordpress.com so I can buy the domain name ChristinaLuke.com but that WordPress name (christinaluke.wordpress.com) has been used in the past and has since been deleted. Is there any way to see how long ago that website was deleted so I can get that domain name?
Warmest regards,
Christina

Hi there,
I’m afraid it’s not possible to recycle that address, but you don’t need to have that address to register the domain ChristinaLuke.com.
You can register any custom domain you want, as long as the domain is available on the public domain registry. It does not have to match your WordPress.com address. It does not even have to be similar.
When you add a custom domain it will be shown in the place of your free address, so no visitor to your site will ever see the free address.
Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.

Hi! Thanks so much for your help!
I just paid to map my domain name but I don’t understand how to finish the process. I don’t understand any of what is stated below means. So since I purchased my domain name from WordPress do I contact WordPress about this?2. Ask your domain provider to update your DNS settings
This step must be completed with the company you purchased your domain from. You can contact the support department at your domain registrar for help if necessary. If you are not sure what to say, here is a sample email you can send:
I would like to use my domain with a WordPress.com site. In order to do this, I need to point my domain’s name servers to the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM -
Hi.
You are supposed to be assisted by the company you registered the domain with. But first go to this WordPress link https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/ for more information. It gives you options on how to go about handling the issue.
Hope this is of help.
Thank you! -
Hi!
Thanks so much but I’ve actually been going over this website for the past 30 minutes or so. My domain name didn’t exist so I just put it in the search to map it. I purchased from WordPress so should WordPress be helping?
Thanks!

Okay.
May I ask how you went about purchasing the domain? Did you choose to upgrade to the premium plan? Was the process completed? Did your money get deducted?
Because if you purchased through WordPress then according to my knowledge you don’t need to map your address.
Thank you. -
Hi!
Yes I purchased through WordPress, money was deducted, and I mapped because the domain name I wanted had already been used by another WordPress user and had been deleted. My initial comments at the start of the thread explains it a bit more. Let me know if you need anything else!

Hi Christina
Domain mapping is not the same as a domain registration. Domain registration gives you ownership of a new domain. Domain mapping is used to connect a domain that you already own to a WordPress.com site.
According to the Whois data, the domain christinaluke.com was registered with GoDaddy in 2014 and will expire in August 2016. Was it you who bought it?
If it was, you need to ask GoDaddy to change the name servers as explained in the support document to point that domain to us.
If it wasn’t you who registered the domain in 2014, that means someone else already owns it and the domain mapping upgrade with us won’t work. In that case, you’ll need to pick a different domain, maybe christinaluke.org? And you can cancel the domain mapping you bought for a full refund via the Purchases page:

Hi!
Thanks so much for your help! I wasn’t aware of any of this when I first got into blogging. I reached out to GoDaddy and for now purchasing through them and mapping through you is simply not possible so I’ll just hold off on this for a while.
Thanks!

Hi.
No need to get discouraged I think as a last attempt try asking GoDaddy for help on how you can map you address because remember that now you will be able to get the information for the NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM.
Just approach them. It would be unfortunate to purchase a domain and not use it. -
@christinaluke13
I completely understand. You should receive your refund for the domain mapping in a few days. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.@georgemutambuka
The problem is that Christina does not own the domain. Someone else owns it with GoDaddy, so she does not have access to the domain to change the name servers. -
