I want to buy your business option but I just have one question.

    Hi there !

Forget that juliettecacahueteblog I was just trying to find out answers to my questions on my own. Of course it didn’t work and this is why I write this message.

I currently have an e-commerce website I created via WIX with more than 1000 products. I have a lot of technical issues with it, I want to change it and probably have WordPress instead as I heard a lot of good things about it.

I thought of the business option which costs 300$/year. Same price than Wix but first I need to know :

    – Is 1000 products (and probably more soon) ok to handle for your platform ?
    – If I have technical issues how fast can you help if I have the business option ?
    – Is there a possibility for me to do a trial online not especially of the business option but of an e-commerce website via wordpress ? Because I need to see how it works, what it looks like first to decide ?
    – Finally, if I can do a short trial or something via a fake website address such as ‘juliettecacahueteblog’, will I be able to change the url afterwards ? I ask you that because I don’t want to close down my current website to become one of your customer without being sure that it is what I want. (I really need to try it) Also because I can’t export my datas from wix and so I need to work on both websites in a first place anyway
    – Finally finally I am very confused by all the possibilities of e-commerce websites there are on wordplace what are the differences and which one is the best for me in your opinion :
WPSHOP ? ECWID ? GUMROAD? SHOPIFY?

    Help please

  • Hi @juliettecacahueteblog,

Our WordPress.com Business plan lets you pick from Shopify, Ecwid, and Gumroad.

It’s hard to say which would be best, as each has their own features and pricing plan. Since you have so many products, you might choose accordingly:

    https://gumroad.com/features/pricing

    https://www.shopify.com/pricing

    Pricing

    – Is 1000 products (and probably more soon) ok to handle for your platform ?

It depends on which shop and plan you choose. Some have unlimited products, so that might be a good option for you.

    – If I have technical issues how fast can you help if I have the business option ?

If you need help with WordPress.com, you’d have access to chat during US business hours.

    – Is there a possibility for me to do a trial online not especially of the business option but of an e-commerce website via wordpress ? Because I need to see how it works, what it looks like first to decide ?

Shopify has a free trial. Ecwid has a free plan — you’d need to upgrade to fit your site, but it would give you a good feel for how things go. And Gumroad charges per transaction, so you could certainly test it out, too.

And yes, we have a 30 day trial option here as well. Let me know if you need help with that.

    – Finally, if I can do a short trial or something via a fake website address such as ‘juliettecacahueteblog’, will I be able to change the url afterwards ?

Sure. I’d recommend starting with the free domain ( juliettecacahuete.wordpress.com for example ) then adding a custom domain if you’d like to stay.

Also, I just wanted to point out there are other e-commerce with self-managed WordPress installations at other hosts. Woocommerce is a very popular option there. So if you feel comfortable managing the more technical aspects of creating a website (or hiring someone to do that for you), that may be a good option for you.

    I hope that helps!

Thank you all for your help ! One last little issue : I now have the business option and I want to install woo commerce. The thing is that apparently nothing has changed in my menu since I suscribed and I can’t even add a new plugin.

Honestly nothing has changed in my dashboard which still looks like a blog and nothing much except that I can apparently access to those 3 options I don’t want (shopify, gumroad and ecwid). Help help help please please please thank you thank you !

  • At this point, Woocommerce only works with self-managed sites at other hosts.

WordPress.com is a managed service, and WordPress.org is free, DIY software that you can install elsewhere. We have more details here, but if it helps, I like to think of it as the difference between a restaurant and a recipe.

So if you’d like to make and manage your own WordPress installation at another host, you can install Woo Commerce and whatever other plugins you’d like. You would just need to be able to manage it.
