I want to change how my blog posts are displayed on my homepage
-
I want to change how the posts hosted in the ‘blog’ page are displayed on my home page. right now are displayed several posts, in a vertical stream down a column. i would rather the blog category on my homepage to display only one, the most recent post in its respective column. this is an attempt to clean a lot of the dead space on the home display.
the blog in question is readitnewjersey.wordpress.comThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I had a look at your webpage above and it seems that you have activated the ‘Grid page’ template. If you have a look at the Demo of your theme here:
https://edindemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/default-page/
when you activate the ‘Default page’ template it seems that it displays your latest post.
If you play around with this demo you will get a better idea of all the layouts this theme has to offer you.Let us know if you need any further help :-)

i’m very illiterate in how this all works quite yet, the link you provided seems to allow me to navigate through the example of a pretty well polished blog in the Edin theme. Is it a kind of tutorial or something designed to help me learn how to manipulate the theme features? if it is, i don’t have knowledge enough to get to the tutoring part.
i had accidentally changed how the blog column displays in my grid once. it showed only a singly blog post. I managed to bumble around enough to get it to display all of my posts again (the state its in now). i now realize this causes visual dead space. i want to achieve the solitary-post display again, but nothing seems to work.

i bumbled around some more and found out what i needed, as well as figured out what you were talking about in regard to exploring the theme.
for my specific need:
Theme > static front page > under “posts page” drop down choose “-select-” > save
by choosing “-select-” (effectually not choosing any subcategory) the theme puts up a default blog page instead of the blog stream.
eventually i will have to figure out the “parent page” thing, but this small victory is enough for now.

Hey I’m glad you explored and got it to work to what you wanted for now:-)
Another useful guide to help you figure out how ‘Parent pages’ work is this:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-options/
Think of it as a ‘parent – to – child’ relationship.. :-)Have fun and you can always write back for more help!
Cheers
