I want to close my wordpress.com account

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I want to close my wordpress.com account. I have a wordpress.ORG account too. I want to KEEP my WordPress.ORG account. Both of these accounts have access to my website teresavillegas.com.
If I close my WordPress.com account will my site teresavillegas.com still be available to my WordPress.org account?
    Thank you in advance

    Hello @teresavillegas,

Deleting your WordPress.com site will not affect your self-hosted WordPress.org site. However to confirm this to you from an authentic source, I looked up the forum for similar concerns like yours and here is what a staff member advised a fellow member with a similar concern as yours.

    Quoting @yamphoenix

    Hi there!

No, deleting your website on WordPress.com will not affect your self-hosted WordPress.org website.

We have no connection and access to the files of your WordPress.org site which is hosted on another hosting provider.

I hope this helps clarify things. Feel free to get back if you have questions.

    Hope this answers your question.

  • I noticed you deleted your account already, but I wanted to clarify one thine. If you use Jetpack on your site, deleting your WordPress.com account will mean you lose the connection and access to those services and features. So if you find yourself needing those back, just be sure to respond to the account deletion email right away and we’ll help you get that back. Cheers. :)

    Hello @supernovia,

Thank you for this added information, going forward, it will help me keep this in mind when answering site deletion related (if deleting WordPress.com site would affect WordPress.org site) questions.

    Thank you!

    Hi Again Supernovia,

Please, I still need your help!
As you know, I deleted my original wordpress.com site in February.

Then today I went to my wordpress.org admin page and found out that I had to install Jetpack via WordPress.com.

I registered again thinking wrongly that it would simply update my WordPress.org site with Jetpack.

But now it looks like I have only reopened a wordpress.com account again, by mistake, so I want/need to cancel it again for the sake of clarity, but how do I get Jetpack on my wordpress.org site?

Also, I’m having a hard time understanding WHERE is my wordpress.org site went to?

Please advise and a big Thank You in advance, Teresa

  • Hi Teresa,

Using Jetpack on a self-hosted WordPress site requires a WordPress.com account. Jetpack adds a number of WordPress.com features to your site, like our stats and email subscription service, and it uses our servers to run certain processes and serve certain content on your site, in order to reduce the load on your own server. All those things rely on a connection to a WordPress.com username account to work.

how do I get Jetpack on my wordpress.org site?

Log into WP-Admin on your site, and go to Plugins ->Add New. Search for and install Jetpack. Once it’s installed, activate it, but the moment you do that you’ll be prompted to connect to a WordPress.com account, and the plugin won’t work until you do that.

I currently see your site listed in your WordPress.com account, which means you’ve already completed this process and Jetpack is working on your site.

Also, I’m having a hard time understanding WHERE is my wordpress.org site went to?

I don’t really understand your question here. Your site is at https://teresavillegas.com/ where it’s always been, and you manage it by logging into WP-Admin using the credentials you’d set for that site.

At the moment you will also see that site if you go to WordPress.com and click on My Sites. This is because the site is now connected here via Jetpack, which allows you to manage posts and pages on the site via the WordPress.com interface as well as directly via WP-Admin.

Please let us know if you have any more questions about this.
