    Hi there,

    If you start to create your site, there are one or two options for free domain names, listed under the recommended domain name (if you want a free domain) or just go with the domain you want. When you are asked to select a plan, there is an option to have a free plan at the top of the page (or upgrade to a paid plan if you want).
    You can also publish the site for free if you want to. When you go to make your site live, it will ask again if you want to buy a domain name or a plan, but there are options to keep the free domain name and plan. You can skip purchases with domain names when launching your site.
    If you want to try out features of the paid plans, that will require you to upgrade, but WordPress offers a full 30-day refund on all plans if you aren’t happy with it. You can read more about plans here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/
