I want to create a more stripped-down staging site version of an existing site.

    hello – can anyone please advise me?

    I want to create a more stripped-down staging site version of an existing WordPress website (to overwrite it asap). Although it is very simple – the existing WordPress site is incredibly slow and very unwieldy to work with (I have inherited this site from a colleague who has left our organisation and get the feeling that there are a lot of miscellaneous background files that are slowing everything down). Can anyone guide me on how to create a stripped-down staging site without automatically duplicating all of the background files mentioned above? Many thanks!
