I want to create a new website using a domain I own. I want to sell my reading course but I don’t want a complicated storefront or much $ expense. How?

    I have a website with a domain that is hosted by joker.com. I want to redo the website (simple maybe four pages) and do not have much budget for hosting. I want to sell one product on the site; I don’t need anything complicated. What is the best way forward for me? Thank you.

    Hi djaremko,

    There are two types of WordPress to choose from:

    1. WordPress.com: where the site is created and hosted with us.
    2. WordPress.org: where WordPress.org software is installed on a third party host.

    There is some information about the main differences between the two here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    On WordPress.com, hosting is included in the cost of our plans and therefore isn’t something you need to purchase separately — the amount of storage space varies depending on which plan you choose.

    You could start by creating a free site, then map or transfer the domain to WordPress.com which you are ready to make the switch. The domain credit included in paid plans would cover the cost of mapping or transferring.

    Depending on which plan you want to use, there are several ways to sell products on WordPress.com:

    Question: can I start with making a free site on wordpress.com but still transfer the domain to wordpress.com from joker.com?

    Adding a domain to a site is like putting a dust jacket on a book: the contents of the book doesn’t move to another book, just the outside changes. In the same way a domain is just a label at which someone access your site – changing it doesn’t change what’s actually on your site, nor does anything on your site need to move.

    So you can start on a free WordPress.com address and change to a custom domain on a paid plan later at any time.

    To add your own domain will require our Personal Plan or higher.
