I want to create a WP site that mimics, but doesn’t affect the current domain
-
I already have a site that I maintain in a web editor. I’m looking at duplicating that site in WordPress, but I’m not sure I’ll transfer it. If I decide to transfer it to WP, I’ll make the domain changes necessary, but now, I’d like to use something like wordpress.com/ista for my prototype test site.
Can I do that? -
Hi there! Of course, though you’d use a free subdomain, like ista.wordpress.com instead of a subdirectory.
If you decide to move the real domain here, you’ll just add a plan, transfer or map the domain, and update the domain settings so it works with your new site here.
You’re also welcome to add a plan before you build the site. This is really helpful if you need premium features, plugins, live chat access to support, or a 1:1 support session. You can just skip the custom domain in setup, then come back to that later.
Does that help? If not, send more details and we’ll go from there.
