I want to DELETE my account.

  • Unknown's avatar

I completly forgot this place until I recently sign up on another website and realised there was a photo of me instantly added to my profile on that site BECAUSE there’s one on yours. I don’t want and don’t need an account on your website and I want to delete it.

I know there’s an article somewhere on here saying “WordPress accounts can’t be deleted”, so please don’t tell me that again. I find it quite amazing that you forbid your user to delete their account if they wish to do so, it is to us to manage what site we subscribed to or not on the internet and I don’t understand why and how you allow yourselves to decide that for us. I want to do so.

So will you please delete my account ? Thank you for your help.

Oh, funny you (nama2794) posted this today. I have the same request. I also want to delete my account.

I have too many other sites that demand my time and attention right now. After researching what it would take to maintain this blog properly, I now wish to delete my name, info, pics, and all else related to my account. In plain words, I want to DELETE my account.

    Thanks very much.

Well, lauratveras, I sure hope they will listen to us because from what I saw after checking the matter on Google they do not seem very helpful in that case…

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmm. I don’t understand why. This kind of obnoxiousness just serves to repel future customers. If I was surfing around for a blogging host and read our posts, I’d probably choose not to open an account here for this reason alone.

  • Unknown's avatar

I think the same thing. I don’t quite understand what reasons they have not to let us delete our accounts if we want to do so. I can’t wait to hear them.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well said. We’ll probably find out at the same time, if at all. Best of luck to us.

nama2794: I found the place to delete the account! Go to your Dashboard and down to Tools. Right click on Tools. Delete Site is the third down on the popup menu there.

I’m going to do it. I think. They put the fear into you by stating that it’s forever, no getting your name or address back. Ever. But I’m doing it. I think.

Good luck to you and thanks very much for sharing your worries with me!

Here’s how to deactivate your account:
All you were required to provide to register an account here was an email address that can be replaced at any time.

Any personal information that you voluntarily posted can also be removed at any time.

Although username accounts are not deleted, so you cannot be impersonated and have your reputation affected by anyone registering the same username in the future, there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

    1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.

    2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
    https://wordpress.com/settings/notifications/

    3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
    http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.html

    4. To hide your Gravatar profile, login and on the bottom right hand corner of your Gravatar profile page you will find a “hide” button visible only to you that you can click.

    @lauratveras
Deleting a site is deleting a blog ie. a website. It is not deleting an account. To delete a free hosted WordPress.COM blog you must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered the blog. To prevent accidental or inadvertent deletion of blogs, there are multiple warnings given that blog deletion is permanent and irreversible. Lastly, a verification link is sent in an email and must be clicked to delete a blog. If clicking that link does not work then copy and paste it into your upper browser window and click.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

Alternatively, to change blog visibility to private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content and deleting blogs does not remove any indexed content from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

Thank you for your answers, timethief. I knew this already and I am still not satisfied. I know and understand that you can delete all datas from your account but this is not what I asked for. I asked for my account to be deleted, and still do not understand why it is I can’t do that.

lauratveras : as timethief said, it does not delete your account, only your blog which I do not even have.

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s too bad you are not satisfied with deactivating your account but the policy stands. You either deactivate your account or not. The decision is yours to make.

  • Unknown's avatar

Timethief, thank you for your response. I can do everything you suggested to remove my information, but I don’t like the idea of my name(s) hanging out there with a “throwaway” email address linked to it. That means I have to keep an article of cyber-garbage in order to be associated with WordPress. I want to be done with this without having to note useless information. You imply I may have to access this unused site some time in the future. If it was gone entirely, this would not be the case.

nama2794: This is not okay with me either.

  • Unknown's avatar

You either accept the fact that your only choices are to (1) leave the account active or to (2) deactivate it and move on or you don’t. What you choose to do won’t make any difference at this end of things. The policy stands as it is.

  • Unknown's avatar

Timethief, “It’s too bad …” is a very unprofessional, bordering on rude reply to nama2794. Is there someone in the WordPress policy department I can email directly about this?

  • Unknown's avatar

Well timethief, I don’t. Is there any way to get in touch with the people who decided of this policy ?

  • Unknown's avatar

Timethief, you’ve crossed the border. You are extremely rude.

  • Unknown's avatar

Because that’s some other thing I didn’t find : how to get help directly from the managers of this website and not from the members who can only help us that much ? I mean, it is really nice from you to try and help us, but you can only tell us what is found in the help section…

  • Unknown's avatar

Keep calm lauratveras, it is no use fighting with him/her

  • Unknown's avatar

So apparently you can’t get in touch with the staff if you haven’t paid premium ? I can’t believe this.

  • Unknown's avatar

nama2794: You’re right. I feel I am in the presence of a bully, which means there won’t be a fair resolution to anyone.
