I want to delete my blog, but I'm not receiving the email to complete deletion

I wish to delete my site as I am now using one with a very similar domain name and I want to avoid confusion. However, when I request to delete it, WordPress are supposed to send me an email so that I can confirm this, but no matter how many times I try to request it, the email never arrives. There doesn’t seem to be any way for me to contact WordPress directly to ask them to delete my site. It’s definitely not in my spam. Any ideas? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. If you’re using Gmail, the confirmation email might be in the Social tab of the inbox.

However, please be aware that deleting the blog will wipe out both the content AND the address, cannot be undone and cached copies of the page may still exist on search engines for several weeks. I see you’ve already set that site to private. If it comes up in search results visitors will only see a page stating that the blog is private, so no harm can come from keeping it. Eventually it will drop from search results, so people won’t even find it unless they search for the specific address. And if you keep it you can use it as a test blog or a backup to your regular blog.

Hi, thanks for your response. I am using Gmail, but there’s no sign of the confirmation emails under the social tab.

I’m aware that deleting the blog will wipe out both the content and that address – that is exactly what I want. What concerns me is that my active website address is extremely similar to the one I want to delete, so I wish to avoid people googling my name and finding the old site, not my new one.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blogs or indexed content in them does not remove it from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months. To completely remove an entire page from Google search results after it produces a 404 (page not found) error see: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
