  I’m a newbie so I don’t know how this blog got added to my panel but I want to delete it. How do I do it?

  Provided you are logged in under the username account that registered the blog you can delete it by using these instructions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
  Please note that deleted blog URLs are not recycled.
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

  Using the privacy setting may be a better option > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  Note: That search box appeared on the front page of the blog because you deleted the placeholder Hello World post. The 404 (page not found) error message http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ and the searchbox will disappear as soon as you publish a post, not a page. http://http//en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
