    i want to design a site without registering a domain. i already have a domain registered and I want to keep the current site live until I finish the new design.

    Hi @kslocher,

    That’s a great question, and you’re absolutely on the right track.
    I understand you want to build a new site without affecting your current live site — and you can absolutely do that.

    Your current live site and the new site you’re building will be completely separate. Nothing will happen to your live site while you’re working on the new one.

    You can start building your new site with a free WordPress.com plan and use the free wordpress.com address while you work. When you’re ready to use your existing custom domain (or register a new one), you’ll need a paid WordPress.com plan. The first year of domain registration is free with any paid plan if you choose to register a new domain.
