I want to disable two step authentication but it is not working
I have followed the instructions and used the last/latest code and the verification keeps failing. I have tried several times on different days and still have the same problem.
I find the two step authentication clumsy and unnecessary
Please help me remove this from my account

I am sorry but this did not work. In fact it made matters worse. For a while I couldn’t even log in to my WordPress account.
I have cleared my cache. Tried several browsers. Got new verification codes and NONE OF THIS WORKS.
Is there no way you can disable this remotely?

We have only one means of account recovery and I posted it above.
Are you telling me that using the account recovery form did not work? -
It did not work – it tells me to go to the lost password form only.
I did this – this locked my account as I said and after a while I got back in.
I have since tried to disable the two step authentication using the SMS code I used to get back in (ensuring the cache was clear) and it still does not work.

This “Need More Help?” link definitely works https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery Our account recovery team will get back to you by email so you can discuss the options in private.

I have figured it out – it was not very clear
The printed codes I set up did not work.
The SMS codes were used each time to get me in – which is what caused frustration.
The last SMS code did not work.
I decided to regenerate the printed codes and these did work.
This needs to be made clearer in your instructions.

Thanks for that. I’ve tagged this thread for Staff to take note of your suggestion re: clarity.

Hi there,
Thanks for your feedback. I added a clarification in our instructions mentioning that you can use a backup code to disable two-step authentication if needed:
If there’s anything else that you think could be further clarified, please let us know. :)
