I want to edit the links (‘The Associates’) but can’t find a way to do so

    Hello,

On my page, there is a tab (or menu, or section, or pane — I’m not sure of the WordPress term for it) that says ‘The Associates.’ It has a few websites that are linked to, but I want to edit them. That is, I want to delete one of the links and then add a couple of others. Unfortunately, I have searched high and low but have not found a way to access this portion of my site. Can you please tell me how to do so?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hi there,

Which site is this for? I see you have a few on your account when I look here:

    https://wordpress.com/sites/

I did check thatwasthenthisisyesterday.wordpress.com but did not see anything that said “The Associates” but if you can share the URL of the site with the issue we’re happy to take a closer look.

    Thanks for the additional info!

Thanks for your response. I wasn’t even aware of it until just now, as the notification went to a bulk mail folder in my gmail, and there was (strangely) no sign of any response within this forum account — no notifications or anything.

“The Associates” seems to have been a built-in part of the old WordPress site template, as I never typed or created any such category. I managed to get rid of it after posting my support inquiry (and after much trial and error).

The “solution,” it seems, was to go into the “Widgets” category and edit that part out. I do need to figure out how to add the links back in that I want to include; this part isn’t clear either, but it seems that it’s something else I need to do in the Widgets category. It’s just a very confusing layout.

I guess a lot of the issues I’m experiencing have to do with changes that WordPress has made since I last edited my sites (2014-2015 is when I set them up, and I haven’t edited the main pages or overall site setup since then).

There seem to be a lot of compatibility-type issues, where things that were once easy to edit are now difficult, or at least different. Things that were easy to FIGURE OUT how to edit in 2014-2015 are now hard to edit, or hard to figure out.

Bad/confusing site engineering + no customer support = a bad formula

    To give another example….

I’m trying to edit one of the Pages on another of my sites. When I created that page years ago, it was a straightforward task to create headings (of different sizes).

Now, it appears to be impossible to do anything with the headings (to change their size, color, font, etc.).

It also appears to be impossible to create new headings.

It IS possible to change the size of the body text. However, it seems that the ability to create/edit headings has not carried over into the new system (the new user interface for editing one’s Pages).

The result is a weird, unmanageable mix of text elements that cannot be reconciled within the same document.

This is really bad design. It shows a real disregard for longtime users.

  • Hi there,

    I do need to figure out how to add the links back in that I want to include;

There are several ways you can go about adding a link to a widget. The most straightforward way is to add a paragraph block to the widget and create a link within that block.

For information on adding links, please visit our support page here:

I understand your frustration. If it has indeed been since 2014-15 that you have last edited your site, there have been quite a few changes.

A few years ago, we retired the classic editor that you were most likely using in 2014, but you can still use the features of the classic editor through the classic editor block:

    https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor

You can still visit the wp-admin dashboard (http://example.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and use the classic editor there:

    https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor

We also have information on transitioning to the Block Editor, and Frequently Asked Questions.

    Hope this helps.
