I want to have a slideshow on my "home" page using Blogum by WPShower.
-
I would like the first page of my blog, i.e. “home”, to have a slideshow that automatically shifts images. Please note that “home” in Blogum is always the preview of the latest post.
I tried in several ways without success.
1. Using the slideshow function within WordPress (http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/)
Problem: since “home” shows the preview of the post, the slideshow is not active until you click on it and actually open the full post.2. Embedding a gallery from Minus.
Problem: it should be possible, but it did not work.3. Trying to embed a Flickr Slideshow or Lightbox.
Problem: apparently it is not possible.I can see other ways I haven’t tried yet:
4. Making a pdf presentation of the pictures, uploading the pdf file to Issuu or Scribd and embedding it on the latest post.5. Making a video from the pictures (using for instance Picasa Video) and embedding it on the latest post.
6. Making a video from the pictures (using a video maker software) and embedding it using Vodpod.
Before I do that, I would like to ask if you have any suggestions.
Do you think that, since the “home” page is just a preview of the post, it might simply not work independently from the approach? Is there any way or any code to solve this issue? Can the first page of the Blogum template be a full post? Is there any way to modify the “home” page? Thanks in advance for your support.
Cheers.

The only way for this to work in Blogum would be to set a static front page following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
Then, you can add a Slideshow to the specific page following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/

Just a few extra notes on this issue. While creating a static front page and adding a slideshow to it allowed me to find a solution, it also highlighted some limits of both the Slideshow tool and the Media Library.
Slideshow tool limits
1. There are no options available! There could be at least a few related to background color or transparency, layout, button style, size.
2. You cannot use images you have previously uploaded in the Media Library and that are already attached to a post. This leads to the problem of having to re-upload all images again just for the purpose of the Slideshow, even if the same images were already present in the posts (and in the Media Library).Media Library limits
1. It is not possible to attach the same image to two or more posts or pages. This means that you need to upload several times the same image if you want to use it in several posts or pages. It is just a waste of resources.
2. Once an image is attached to a post or page it is not possible to detach it. This is simply absurd and annoying.A solution to the problem of having double images is to upload all images in the Media Library or directly to the Slideshow static page, instead of uploading them individually on each post. If you upload them in the Media Library the images will not be attached to anything, therefore it will be necessary to attach them to the Slideshow static page.
Once all the images are attached, then you can insert them on each post, directly from the Media Library. By doing so you will not have to upload more than one copy of the same image. Formally the images will be only attached to the Slideshow page, but they will show also on the post.As for the layout of the Slideshow tool there is not much to do. Hopefully, WP will offer more options in the future, until then maybe you could try:
