I want to insert pictures into a post, excluding them from an existing gallery
-
I am using a gallery in a post ( http://passthedoucheys.com/2011/10/03/racey-racey-racey-racist-niggerhead-edition/) and want to include other pictures in the same post WITHOUT them also appearing in the gallery. The “help” page (http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/ )
is not very helpful ………when I follow the instructions,(* Note: To get an attachment ID for an image, go to your Media Library and hover over the image title you want to exclude. You can find the ID in the URL (the number after attachment_id=). ), no number displays.HELP!

Instead of doing that, try clicking the edit link under the image in the Media section of your Dashboard.
The ID number will be in the edit URL.

When I do that, I get this:
http://dcmartin.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/racism2.jpgWhat do I do now? I don’t want the images of perry, the “no racism” button, or the klan guy in the gallery – how do I get them out, but leave them in the article itself?
-
That’s the image URL, I mean click the edit link under the image.
You’ll get this: https://dcmartin.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media.php?attachment_id=3028&action=edit
In the above link, the file ID is 3028.

OK, thanks, now I see it. Now my problem is editing them out of the gallery while still publishing them separately in the post….the instructions are vague to me.
Can you walk me through it step by step – I am not sure if these instructions, especially the gallery shortcode, mean that I am supposed to be able to edit right from the media gallery or if I have to do it in the post editor.
thanks for your help! -
It sounds like you want to use the exclude option in the gallery shortcode. There is not a way to edit that from the visual editor, but you can do it from the html editor using the proper shortcode formatting.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/#html-editorYou’ll want to add a gallery shortcode using the visual editor with the options you want, and then switch to the html editor and add in this option:
exclude="attachment_id, attachment_id, attachment_idReplace attachment_id with 3028 and the other IDs from the images you would like to exclude.
Excluding images is an advanced option in the gallery shortcode. You can find more background about the gallery shortcode at http://codex.wordpress.org/Gallery_Shortcode
