I want to know how to make my portfolio look like the theme.

  I’m trying to get my portfolio (https://visserjoseph.wordpress.com/) to look just like this theme. (https://illustratrdemo.wordpress.com/) I’m only just learning, and not web savvy, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m not sure if I just don’t have the right buttons pressed in the admin pane or if I have to pay for the theme to make it look just like theirs or what. Any help anyone could offer would really be a big help. Thank you.

  Hi there!

  Your homepage is currently setup to pull in your latest posts whereas the demo site for Illustratr is setup as a static front page.

  To copy the demo site and setup a static front page, you firstly need to go to My Site in WordPress.com then choose the option to Customize in the left-hand sidebar. You’ll reach what’s known as the WordPress.com Customizer:

  From the Customizer, click on the ‘Static Front Page’ tab. Check the ‘A static page’ option underneath ‘Front page displays’ and then choose a page you wish to be your ‘Front page’ from the dropdown menu. Next, ‘Save & Publish.’

  Once you’ve set the page you wish to be your front page, the next step is to assign the ‘Portfolio Page Template’ to that page. To do this, ‘Edit’ that page and then, from the left-hand sidebar in the editor, click on ‘Page Settings.’ From here, you’ll see the ‘Page Template’ dropdown, where you can select ‘Portfolio Page Template.’ Here’s a screenshot of how that will look for you:

  Save your changes, and you’ll then be all setup so that your portfolio items get pulled into your front page. :)
