I want to make my pages show bits of blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the free hosting option for my blog

My hope is to have my welcome page show a paragraph or so of the most recent blog with a link to more, and to have pages introducing each of the categories and showing a paragraph of their first blog with a link to more(that category) as well.

My boyfriend suggested iframes for this, but they were not allowed to carry through.

    My questions are these.

Is there a way I am overlooking for accomplishing this? Would an iframe accomplish this? If so, is there some way to get an iframe to work? Would purchasing CSS be helpful?

    Thank you.

First off iframes will not work here due to security concerns. The same is true for javascript and flash. http://support.wordpress.com/code/

You can use the more tag in your posts: http://support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/ .

The categories pages you get when you click on a category in the categories widget vary as to what they show from theme to theme. Some show the entire post, some show an excerpt and some show just the title of the post. There is no way to add introductory text to the beginning of a categories page. This blog post tells which themes show the complete post and which show excepts or just the titles: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/ .

What you could do is to create a page and call it something like “About my Categories” and then put links to your categories in that page along with your introductory text.
