I want to map my domain

By Namecheap… do I need to pay WordPress for anything? :(

    Hi there :)

To map a domain, you’ll need:

An upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site (such as a Personal, Premium or Business plan, etc.)

To add a mapping subscription to your site.

To update the name servers for the domain, so they point to WordPress.com.

  • Hi there,

Are you building a WordPress site hosted with Namecheap, or are you building the site on WordPress.com and you want to connect it to a domain you registered at Namecheap?

If you’re building your site at Namecheap, you’ll be using the open source version of WordPress made by the community on WordPress.org. In that case you don’t need to pay us anything – WordPress.com is a hosting provider for that software, like Namecheap, and if your site is not hosted with us, it means we’re not providing any service to you. The WordPress software itself is free to use, so you also don’t need to pay WordPress.org anything. You’ll only pay Namecheap, who is providing the hosting service.

If you want to use a domain you bought on Namecheap with a site hosted with us on WordPress.com, you’ll need a paid plan and our domain mapping upgrade, as explained above.
