On the home page, Facebook first selects the featured image used, and if there is none, it uses your site icon.
If it’s an internal page or post, Facebook first selects the featured image, and if there is none, it uses any of the other images in your post from top to bottom.If you want to pick the image that shows up on Facebook, make it a featured image and make sure the size follows Facebook guidelines: https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-image-thumbnail/

The only way to control this is to go to Facebook, upload the image you want in a new status update, and then add a link to your post to the same update.
If you share a link using the sharing button or even by posting the link directly into a new Facebook update, Facebook will pick the image. We suggest to them what image they should use as explained in the support page linked above, but ultimately this is completely in Facebook’s control.
