I want to remove ALL widgets

  I can’t seem to figure out how to do it.

  I have searched many questions and answers, but they don’t resolve the issue.

  I tried “Use an HTML/Text widget : write nothing in the text -box and stick it to sidebar.” — didin’t work.

  I jus want a clean blank slate for my blog, where I can simply post my text, without any widgets.

  Is that possible? If so, how?

  Note: If you are under the impression that removing widgets from sidebars allows you to expand the blogging area in posts and pages then it just ain’t so. There is no free way to do that unless you choose a theme that provides for full width display in posts and pages.

  If you do not have such a theme then you will need to purchase an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and do the required CSS editing.

  On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.

  Thanks. At this stage, all I need to do is remove three things on my blog:

  1) the Search box

  2) the following message:

  “Not Found

  Apologies, but no results were found for the requested archive. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.
  Search for:”

  3) the “Home” thingy with its horizontal double lines below my title

  Is this possible to do easily?

  This does not require CSS editing.

  This page > Settings > Discussion
  Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

  We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

  Note 1: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden.   Note 2: To disable comments on already-published posts or pages, you can edit each post and uncheck the “Allow comments” setting. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/#enabledisable-comments

  To disable comments on already published pages (not posts), you go to Pages > All Pages, click the little square to select all the pages, select “Edit” from the Bulk Actions pulldown, click Apply, select “Do not allow” from the Comments pulldown, click Update. Same thing for already published posts, in Posts > All Posts.

  P.S. Make sure you disable pingbacks as well.
