I want to suspend my site for a short time.

  I haven’t had time to update my site lately and rather than delete the whole think I wanted to see if there was a way to suspend the site.

  You can change you blog visibility setting to private > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  just set it to “Private” so folks can’t see it until you are ready for them:

  You could set it to private for the interim. Go to Dashboard > Settings.

  On that page, set your site visibility to “I would like my site to be private …” Save your setting and it will be waiting for you when you are ready to resume.
