I want to upgrade

Thanks but it seems bizarre that both Barclays and Lloyds would be blocking payments? This would surely mean that WordPress upgrades are proving problematic for the majority of your UK customers!?

Both of the cards used are business/commercial accounts and the it’s a lot of effort for me to go through the process of involving the Directors to liaise with the respective banks. Just can’t believe so much effort is required to complete such a simple transaction. Especially, when one of these cards was used to do the same thing on a different account earlier this year!

  • If the payment is not going through it’s either a problem at our payment processor, or at your bank. There are no error messages from our payment processor in your account, which means your data never even reaches them. That means your bank is most likely blocking it.

We haven’t had any other reports from users in the UK. However, this happens sometimes. Banks tend to block payments on a per-account and per-transaction basis when they suspect a particular transaction might be suspicious. The only way to know for sure is to check with them. I’m understand that this is an inconvenience for you, but we really have no control over this.

Still not able to pay, any other alternative?

Do you have any browser extensions/plugins that can be interfering with the look of your page? I recommend disabling all the extensions/plugins if any.

Are you using a proxy or vpn? This may also interfere with it.

Clear your browser cache & cookies as sometimes these may not get saved correctly and can cause issues with your page.

Try opening up a incognito tab/window and sign into your wordpress account and check if you still don’t have the option.

@billh93 I tried it, everything you suggested, went incognito and still the transaction is being declined. :C

will wordpress.org give me the same trouble?
    I need to know alternatives

  • Hello @kanishkasdiary, if the error you get is “declined transaction” there’s a big possibility that it’s an error from your bank declining the payment. You might need to contact them. There were some instances when banks decline online transactions, especially if it would be the first time the card will be used for that merchant.

Yup, I have sent the screenshot to my bank branch manager. Hopefully, they can look into it.

Our developers made a change on our end, and the currency change in your account should save correctly now. I’ve updated it to USD again. Please let me know if it still doesn’t display correctly.

will wordpress.org give me the same trouble?

You can’t have a site with WordPress.org, as WordPress.org is not a hosting platform like WordPress.com. WordPress.org is where you can download the self-hosted WordPress software, but then you need to pay a hosting provider for space on a server to install that software, and for bandwidth that people can actually access the site. Other features that WordPress.com offers for free, like software updates, backups, security, and spam protection, all costs extra on a self-hosted setup.

It’s quite a bit more complex than using WordPress.com, but if you want to explore that option we have some more information here:

    @billh93

Plugins cannot be used on WordPress.com unless you have the Business Plan, and there is no way whatsoever that a plugin on a site can have any effect on the WordPress.com purchase flow, as that’s part of our system, not of the individual user’s site. Please don’t post information that only applies to self-hosted WordPress.org sites here in the WordPress.com forums.

    Hey @kokkieh,

I wasn’t referring to WordPress plugins. I was referring to Browser extensions/plugins as there have been a rise in malware infections with them. Even if it wasn’t a malware infection browser plugins can cause issues with site appearances and functionalities.

Please look at this site for more information.

  • Ah, okay. The only browser extensions that are likely to interfere with the payment pages are extensions that block JavaScript.

Malware in browser extensions is not nearly as big an issue as that site you link to tries to make out. Your computer is much more likely to be infected due to adware bundled with downloaded software than via a browser extension installed from the official add-on repository of a major browser, and it is not the cause for the failed payments in this thread as I have already explained the cause several times above.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I understand I just wanted to clear up the confusion. I know adware is more rampant but in this case adware wouldn’t have anything to do with Paypal not showing up.

I suggested malware only because it is most likely to be the case rather than the payment system failing for coding/mis-configuration issues but I’m glad the issue has been solved! :)

  • I’m glad the issue has been solved!

Well, we’re still waiting to hear back from the OP on that :)

Thank you so much @kokkieh I have been able to purchase and I claimed my free domain! I am very grateful for your help! Have a great day! :D

  • Excellent. Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for your patience while we worked on this.
